Having just turned 21 in January, Karim Guede is a defender with a bright future. The 1.83-metre Hamburger SV centre-half holds dual nationality (Germany and Togo) having honed his talents in Germany with Concordia Hamburg and earned a move to the city’s Bundelsiga giants. Seen as one for the future by his coaches at Hamburg, Guede has been playing for the club’s B team Germany's third division, and is arguably the biggest surprise in Otto Pfister’s squad. Indeed, no-one was more shocked than the player himself when the provisional line-up was announced. “I am delighted to be in the list,” was Guede’s reaction. “It is an immense opportunity for me.”
