Match System
According to the world ranking of May, 2007, the top 12 teams of Central America will enter the next stage with St. Vincent & Grenadines , including 13 teams in total. Meanwhile, the remaining 22 teams will draw lots to compete one-to-one in turn in a two-round tournment and the 11 winning teams will advance to the second stage. 24 teams are assigned to different “pots” and teams in each pot are drawn at random to fight against each other in turn in a two-round tournment. Then the 12 winning teams will enter the third stage. 12 teams are divided into 3 groups, with 4 teams in each group. And the 4 teams in each group will conpete on a home and away basis. The top two teams from each group advance to the forth phase. 6 teams compete on a home and away basis and the top three directly advance to the World Cup Finals. In addition, the forth team will fight for the ticket for the final with the fifth team from the South America Zone in a playoff on a home and away basis.
